HR 1 & Upcoming Changes to Medicaid Coverage

Information Now Available at NYS State of Health Stay Covered Webpage

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

You may have heard about H.R.1, the 2025 federal law that makes major changes to Medicaid and affects health coverage for millions of New Yorkers. Among the federal changes made are new work requirements for people with Medicaid and six-month renewals for some adults ages 19–64. While many people receiving OPWDD services are exempt from the new federal work requirements, as well as some family caregivers, it’s important for everyone to check their coverage. You may need to meet certain conditions or show proof that you fit one of the exceptions when you renew your Medicaid coverage.

The New York State Department of Health’s new webpage Stay Covered clearly outlines the new eligibility requirements and provides resources for anyone who has questions. Please refer to this site and check out their frequently asked questions to avoid any disruption to services.  Please talk to your Care Manager about ensuring you maintain your Medicaid coverage.

Sincerely,

Willow Baer
Commissioner
